John J. Swift is a lawyer in Vancouver, British Columbia, with an
independent practice centered on organizing, financing and advising
knowledge-based businesses, and on technology transfer from public
institutions and universities. Formerly a partner at Farris & Co., Mr.
Swift was Counsel to several technology based corporations including
Microtel Pacific Research Limited, NCompass Labs Inc., Inex
Pharmaceuticals, Ultrasonix Medical Corporation, NeuroMed Technologies
Inc., Apparent Networks Inc., and currently, on a part time basis, to
CellFor Inc.
From 1984 to 1986 Mr. Swift was Principal Secretary and Chief of Staff
to the Prime Minister and to the Leader of the Opposition, Government
of Canada, and from 1973 to 1975, Executive Assistant to the Minister
of Finance, Government of Canada. Mr. Swift is currently a director of
Biofuture Fund, Connotative Intelligence Corporation, Webnames.ca, and has served on the
Boards of Inex Pharmaceutcals, Ultrasonix Medical Corporation and
NeuroMed Technologies Inc.
As a volunteer, Mr. Swift is Chairman of the Central City Foundation,
a member of the Advisory Board of the University of British Columbia
New Ventures Program, a member of the BCIT Technology Management
Program Advisory Committee, and has served as a Director of the
Independence Foundation and of Arts Umbrella.
Interests include family, fiction, music, graphics, islands, politics,
and other sports.
